About DBH
Database of Statistics on Higher Education (DBH) is a data warehouse which holds data on a broad range of topics in the sector of higher education and research in Norway. This includes data about students and PhD candidates, educational institutions, researchers' publication points, staff, finances, building area in square metres, and also amount of stocks and shares held by higher educational institutions. DBH is initiated by the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research and assigned to NSD. It functions as an important steering and decision-making tool by providing quantitative parameters for use by both the Ministry, as well as the sixty-three educational institutions in the sector.
Data collection is achieved through close collaboration with the institutions, and 2009 saw the launch of a project aimed at improving data quality and delivery. NSD has developed a web portal ("the KD portal") to collect and highlight key parameters for the governing of the education sector. This also offers graphical representations of key data with the facility of displaying time series.
NSD also offers courses in data reporting and data analysis based on the DBH data, with the main target group being users at the institutional level. The course participants are treated to a comprehensive introduction to the DBH, its data infrastructure and documentation, before conducting their own analyses. For a list of available courses, see http://dbh.nsd.uib.no/kurs/.
